Hungary Forward Barnabás Varga Stable in Hospital After Serious-Looking Injury Against Scotland

Barnabás Varga Injured in Collision with Scotland Goalkeeper, Receives Fractured Cheekbone

Hungary Grabs 1-0 Victory Over Scotland, Ending Scotland's Euro 2024 Hopes

Budapest, Hungary - Hungary's forward Barnabás Varga is currently in stable condition in a Hungarian hospital after suffering a fractured cheekbone in a mid-air clash with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn during the second half of their Euro 2024 qualifying match on Sunday. Varga was carried off on a stretcher following the incident, and Hungary went on to secure a narrow 1-0 victory that officially eliminated Scotland from the tournament.

The incident occurred in the 67th minute of the match when Varga attempted to head the ball following a free kick. Gunn came out to challenge the header and collided with Varga in midair, sending the Hungarian forward tumbling to the ground. Varga was immediately treated by medical staff on the pitch before being stretchered off and taken to the hospital.

Initial reports suggested that Varga had suffered a serious injury, but subsequent examinations revealed a fractured cheekbone. The injury is not life-threatening, and Varga is expected to make a full recovery. He is currently resting in the hospital and is being monitored by medical staff.

Hungary's victory over Scotland keeps them in contention for a place in the Euro 2024 finals. They are currently second in their qualifying group, three points behind leaders Serbia. Scotland's defeat means that they are now mathematically eliminated from the tournament.
